Alex Carey takes a blinder (Source: Screengrab from Hotstar)
The Champions Trophy 2025 witnessed Glenn Phillips take a screamer in the first game of the tournament and in the ongoing clash between England and Australia, Alex Carey pulled off an even better catch to dismiss Phil Salt. The Aussie fielder took an unimaginable grab to stun the fans.
On a flat surface at the Gaddafi Stadium, Australia elected to bowl first and the decision paid off dividend as Alex Carey, who was relieved of the keeping duties took a sublime grab as Salt couldn't believe his luck. He defied the laws of physics and even his teammates couldn't believe what they all saw.
A Catch For The Ages!
Ben Dwarshuis bowled it fuller and angled it into the pads as Phil Salt flicked it away, but failed to keep it down. The ball flew towards the right of Carey at mid-on as he launched himself in the air and plucked a screamer out of nowhere.
Aussies field a weak squad as England look to punish them
Australia headed into this tournament on the back of injuries to their star players. Skipper Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Mitch Marsh were all ruled out due to injuries and personal reasons.
As a result, the Steve Smith led side fielded a weaker playing XI as the team aims to win their first match in Champions Trophy since the 2009 edition.
England have never won a Champions Trophy tournament and will aim to capture the trophy and the journey begins as they look to tame down the weakened Aussie side.
