Since its inception, the World Test Championship (WTC) has been hailed as one of the most prestigious cricketing competitions. The premier red-ball tournament is conducted in two-year cycles, with the top two teams meeting in the final for the coveted WTC mace.

India have been one of the top sides in WTC history, having played the final on every occasion. Led by Rohit Sharma, India are marching towards their third consecutive WTC final, placed at the top of the nine-team standings.

India have won six of their nine Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle, claiming the top position with 68.52 percentage points.

Considering they have five home Tests remaining and their past record in Australia, where they will play five matches, India are the favourites to make the hat trick of WTC final appearances.

Meanwhile, Australia are currently second in the standings, having emerged victorious in eight out of 12 instances.

How can India meet Pakistan in WTC 2025 final at Lord's?

However, amid Australia's dominance, Pakistan have an outside chance to qualify for the final if some results go their way.

Led by Shan Masood, Pakistan have nine Tests left in this WTC cycle. They will face Bangladesh (2 Tests), England (3 Tests) and West Indies (2 Tests) at home, while the two-match series against South Africa is their only overseas assignment.

So, Pakistan must capitalise on their home advantage and secure comprehensive wins over Bangladesh, England and West Indies to boost their chances of playing the final.

Additionally, they would like India to beat Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 so that they finish with a higher PCT than the mighty Aussies.

Thus, an India vs. Pakistan Test match is practically possible at the highest level in the much-anticipated WTC final only if the Asian Giants bring out their best and finish as the top-ranked teams in the standings.
