In the seventh match of The Hundred Men's competition, Manchester Originals captain Phil Salt began with a bang but couldn't convert his start into a substantial score, falling cheaply against the Trent Rockets on Monday.

Chasing a target of 146 in 100 balls, Phil Salt seemed to be in fine form, smashing two boundaries in the first over bowled by Luke Wood and adding another four in the subsequent over by Imad Wasim. The stage looked set for Salt to anchor the chase, but fate had other plans.

The turning point came in the third over with the introduction of Sam Cook. Cook, with his first delivery, struck gold by removing the dangerous Salt for a brisk 16 off just 8 balls.

It was the 11th ball of the innings when Cook, charging in with determination, bowled a short ball into the pitch. Salt, attempting to nudge it onto the leg side, ended up getting a leading edge.

The ball ballooned back towards Cook, who completed a sharp return catch, much to the disappointment of the Manchester Originals’ camp.

At the time of writing this article, Manchester Originals stand at 119/5 after 82 balls, requiring another 27 runs from the remaining 18 balls.

The match is evenly poised, but Manchester will back themselves to chase down the target, given their batting depth and the conducive conditions.
