In a situation where Pakistan's captaincy roles across formats turned out to be the talk of the town, Shan Masood retained his leadership position in Tests.

The 34-year-old, who had a miserable debut as Test captain in Australia last year, having suffered a 0-3 whitewash there, is expected to lead the side throughout the season, including the forthcoming home series against Bangladesh, which will be a two-match encounter next month.

“PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has accepted the suggestion that Shan Masood should continue as captain of the red-ball team for the forthcoming series against Bangladesh. In all probabilities, he would continue to lead Pakistan throughout the season. The season also includes Test series against England, West Indies and later away series against South Africa,” a PCB source was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk.

Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi's Future Yet To Be Decided

On the other hand, the PCB is yet to decide whether they will keep Babar Azam as their white-ball skipper or not. Babar had a terrible T20 World Cup 2024, having eliminated from the group league stage.

The disastrous performance made more headlines because the Mohsin Naqvi-led group did not give much chance to Shaheen Afridi as their leader.

It is also important to note that the Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in an ODI format. Hence, they must decide who will lead in the 50-over format, given that the position is vacant ever since the World Cup ended in India last year.
