Taskin Ahmed doubtful for T20 World Cup 2026 [Source: AFP]
Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has faced an injury concern during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2025–26 season. Taskin, who plays for Dhaka Capitals, did not take part in the recent match against Noakhali Express on Sunday, January 11.
After the match, Dhaka Capitals captain Mohammad Mithun shared an update about Taskin’s condition. He explained that Taskin has been dealing with a knee problem. The team decided not to include him in the match to avoid making the injury worse.
Taskin Ahmed injury raises concern before T20 World Cup 2026
It is important to mention that Taskin is expected to travel to Dhaka for medical tests and scans to understand the seriousness of the issue.
Notably, Taskin Ahmed is an important member of the Bangladesh squad selected for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to begin on February 7. He forms a strong pace group along with Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Shoriful Islam.
With this injury concern, his availability for the tournament is now uncertain. Medical reports will decide his future, though the chances of a quick recovery appear limited at this stage.
Keeping this situation in mind, BCB may need to look at other fast bowlers as replacements. So, in this article, let’s explore three players who can step in if Taskin Ahmed fails to recover in time.
Hasan Mahmud
Hasan Mahmud has delivered strong performances in the Bangladesh Premier League this season. Mahmud currently plays for Noakhali Express and has shown consistency with the ball.
In eight innings so far, he has taken 14 wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 6.07, which shows excellent control and discipline.
Although Mahmud was not originally named in the T20 World Cup squad, his recent form makes him a strong candidate. His last appearance for Bangladesh in T20 internationals came during the tour of Pakistan 2025, where he picked up 3 wickets in 3 matches.
It is important to mention that his bowling style closely matches Taskin Ahmed, making him a suitable replacement in terms of pace and role.
Ripon Mondol
Ripon Mondol is another pacer who can be considered. Mondol has been impressive in the current BPL season, taking ten wickets in five innings with an economy rate of 8.60. His ability to bowl with pace and energy adds value to the team.
His previous appearance for Bangladesh came in 2023 during the Asian Games. Since then, his development has been noticeable.
In the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, Ripon claimed eleven wickets in five innings and played a major role in helping Bangladesh A reach the final. The team narrowly lost the final against Pakistan A in a super over, though his performance stood out.
Mohammad Saifuddin
Mohammad Saifuddin brings experience and balance to the side as a pace-bowling all-rounder. He has taken six wickets in seven innings during the BPL 2025–26 season. His bowling remains effective, and his batting ability offers extra depth to the lineup.
However, despite not being included in the original World Cup squad, his past contributions to Bangladesh remain valuable. With Taskin Ahmed possibly unavailable, Saifuddin’s skills with both bat and ball could prove useful in high-pressure matches for the Bangla Tigers.
