On Monday, defending champions Chennai Super Kings will cross swords against Kolkata Knight Riders in match 22 of the ongoing Indian Premier League season. 

Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Super Kings have had a topsy-turvy campaign in the IPL 2024, occupying third place in the standings with two wins in four matches. 

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer's Knight Riders have been unstoppable in the tournament, securing three victories on the trot. 

Regarding CSK, the Men in Yellow recently received a six-wicket hammering from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Barring the bowlers' disappointing performance, Rachin Ravindra's failure with the bat cost them, leading to their abysmal outing in the match.

Although Shivam Dube has played some blazing knocks, the likes of Gaikwad, Rahane and Daryl Mitchell have let the team down, failing to convert their starts into big scores. 

Barring the batters, CSK's prominent seamer Mukesh Choudhary had a horrendous day with the ball, conceding 27 runs in his only over. So, if Matheesha Pathirana doesn't return, CSK might consider replacing Choudhary with Shardul Thakur. 

So, there could be three overseas players- Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell and Maheesh Theekshana- in CSK's playing XI, with one between Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner likely to come in as the impact substitute.
