The Irani Cup 2024 clash between Ranji Trophy Winner Mumbai and Rest Of India has been shifted to Lucknow From Mumbai due to incessant rain in the capital of Maharashtra. The details have been revealed from the report by Times of India and the match will now be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow from October 1 to October 5.

The game was first scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, but the extended monsoon in the city has forced BCCI to change the venue. Mumbai will be led by Ajinkya Rahane in the fixture who was at the helm of Mumbai's stupendous Ranji Trophy win earlier this year.

The Irani Trophy is one of the most prestigious red-ball domestic bouts in India and is played every year between Ranji Trophy winners and the Rest of India squad which includes players who have performed well in domestic cricket from across the country.

History Of Irani Cup

The first Irani Trophy game was held in 1960 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ranji Trophy and since then it has been continued regularly. The trophy was named in honour of Zal R. Irani who played a big role in the development of BCCI in its initial years as its president and treasurer.

Saurashtra won the 2023-24 title of the Irani Trophy and overall, Rest Of India has won 30 trophies followed by Mumbai with 14 titles to their name. Former Indian Test opener Wasim Jaffer leads the batting charts with 1294 runs while Padmakar Shivalkar has taken the most wickets (51) in the tournament.
