After the conclusion of the ongoing IPL season, the Indian players will travel to England for a five-match Test series against the host nation. This will mark India's first assignment of the next World Test Championship cycle.

Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian team dramatically got itself disqualified for the WTC final after losing six out of their last eight matches. Thus, the England tour gives India a massive opportunity to change their Test fortunes after a disastrous finish in the 2023-25 cycle.

As the Indian team gears up for a cracking face-off against the English, let's analyse and find out their probable squad for the five-match series.

Rohit Likely To Lead; Gill, Jaiswal, Kohli To Fill Key Slots

Rohit Sharma had a horrendous time with the bat in Australia, managing only 31 runs across five innings at an average of 6.20. However, according to the latest report, the BCCI is keen to persist with Rohit Sharma as India's Test captain, considering the importance of the England tour.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill could be appointed as India's vice-captain, if the reports are to be believed. In 30 innings at number three, Gill has struck 1019 runs at an average of 37.74, including three centuries.

Promising batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hammered 391 runs at an impressive average of 43.44 in Australia, will likely open the batting with captain Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, legendary batter Virat Kohli will likely retain his number four slot after showcasing remarkable consistency in the IPL.

Sudharsan, Arshdeep Might Get Test Call-Ups

Several reports have claimed that B Sai Sudharsan could be picked as the third opener, as he has enjoyed stellar success in the IPL 2025. The Tamil Nadu batter has amassed 1957 runs at an average of almost 40 in First-Class cricket.

India might also rope in Arshdeep Singh, considering his ability to swing the new ball up front. He is a fabulous swing bowler and his experience of playing in the County Championship could prove beneficial for India.

Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja To Return?

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja might make their way back into the Test side after recovering from injuries. They have been integral members of the Indian Test team and have played a significant role in their dominance in the purest format.

While Shami's bowling expertise could be game-changing, Jadeja's all-round attributes might benefit them handily on English soil.

Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are likely to retain their spots, while Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Reddy might be kept in the team, given their solidity as pure Test batters.

India To Strengthen Pace Department To Manage Bumrah's Workload

Jasprit Bumrah's career has been marred by frequent injury setbacks. So, in order to manage his workload, the BCCI, as per reports, could pick a number of fast bowlers as reserves.

In such a scenario, Prasidh Krishna, who has been absolutely magnificent in the IPL (19 wickets in 10 matches), could be rewarded with a Test spot, with Siraj and Washington Sundar likely to get picked as core players.
