14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become a hot topic ever since he made his debut in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). The young star created history by smashing a century in just 35 balls, the fastest ever by an Indian in IPL history. He also became the youngest Indian to score a hundred in the league.
Vaibhav stepped into the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team as a replacement for injured captain Sanju Samson. And ever since, he’s been making headlines with his fearless batting.
Sourav Ganguly Meets IPL Young Sensation
Former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently met Vaibhav and had some inspiring words for him. As per Sangbad Pratidin, Ganguly first spoke with RR head coach Rahul Dravid and Sanju Samson before meeting the youngster. He even checked out Vaibhav’s bat and encouraged him with a heartfelt message:
"I have seen your game. Keep playing the way you play fearless cricket. There is no need to change the game."
The meeting took place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata when Rajasthan Royals played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Vaibhav broke Yusuf Pathan’s long-standing record of the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian (which was 37 balls in 2008) by doing it in just 35 balls. However, after that big knock, Vaibhav has struggled a bit, scoring 0 and 4 in his next two innings.
In the match against KKR, Vaibhav hit a boundary on his first ball but then got out on the second delivery, caught brilliantly by Ajinkya Rahane.
RR’s stand-in captain Riyan Parag also played a fantastic innings in that match, scoring 95 runs in just 45 balls, with eight sixes and six fours. But unfortunately, he couldn’t finish the match for his team. RR needed 22 runs in the last over, and even though Shubham Dubey tried hard with a couple of sixes and a four, they fell just one run short. KKR won the thriller by a narrow margin.
Sadly, with this defeat, RR are now officially out of the race for IPL 2025 playoffs.
