The Gabba has always been a challenging venue, and for India, the situation looks grim in the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. The last time India played here, they made history by breaking Australia’s long-standing unbeaten streak. But this time, their hopes of winning and securing a spot in the 2025 World Test Championship final seem to be fading fast.

Day 3 began with India reeling at 27 for 3 after Mitchell Starc tore through their top order during the first innings. Rain briefly interrupted play, offering some respite. Once the match resumed, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul stepped in, tasked with rebuilding the innings after Australia had posted a commanding 445 runs on the board.

While KL Rahul looked in good touch, Rishabh Pant’s struggles with the bat continued. He was dismissed for just 9 runs on the fifth ball of the 14th over by Pat Cummins, marking his third failure in the series. Cummins bowled a good-length delivery at 136.1 kmph, angling it across Pant from middle and off-stump. Pant attempted a front-foot shot but edged it to Alex Carey behind the stumps, who made no mistake.

Australia’s Dominance In Gabba

Earlier in the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first after winning the toss. However, rain disrupted much of Day 1. On the second day, India managed to grab a couple of early wickets, but Travis Head and Steve Smith turned the tide with stunning centuries. Their contributions, along with solid support from the rest of the batting order, helped Australia reach an imposing total of 445 runs.

With Pant’s dismissal, India lost their fourth wicket, leaving them in deep trouble at 48 for 4 after 14 overs.
