Ravichandran Ashwin Creates History; Becomes Fastest Indian To Reach 500 Test Wickets

The legendary Indian off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently the man of the hour as he became the second fastest bowler in the history of Cricket to register 500 wickets in test cricket. Ashwin surpassed the previous record holder, Anil Kumble who took 105 Test Matches, to become the fastest Indian to score 500 wickets in red ball cricket.

While the veteran Sri Lankan bowler Muttiah Muralitharan remains at the top and the record holder. During his career, Muralitharan showed the way of the pavilion to 500 batsmen within just 87 test matches. While Ravichandran Ashwin took 98 Test matches to unlock the rare milestone as he dismissed Zac Crawley at the score of 15 in the 1st innings of the 3rd Test against England.

In the prestigious list of top five bowlers who have taken the fewest innings to achieve the milestone of 500 wickets, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath stand at number 4 and 5 with 108 and 110 Test Match innings respectively.

Ashwin has taken 25715 deliveries to set the special record only to be standing behind the legendary bowler Glenn McGrath who achieved the feat in 25528 balls. The off spinner has lately showcased exceptional skills during England’s tour of India.

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 10 wickets across the three test matches of England’s tour of India, to give India a dominating upper hand throughout the game. He dismissed 3 batsmen in the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test to help India clinch an easy victory in the second test match, as India defeated England by 106 runs.

With the ongoing third match and two Test matches remaining in this series, Ashwin currently has a long way to go and it will be interesting how he will help and lead India towards the Test series victory against England.
