The inevitable has happened and Bangladesh have bowed out of the Champions Trophy 2025. The team lost its first two matches and the Pakistan game got abandoned as the Tigers were winless and disappointed their fans with a shambolic showing in the ongoing mega ICC event.

The Tigers started the tournament with a loss against fellow Asian team, India, and then crumbled against New Zealand as they lost the contest and were crashed out of the tournament. 

The match Vs Pakistan was a chance to salvage some pride, but rain god had some other plans as the match was called-off in Rawalpindi and they remained winless. The Bangladesh team have been carrying quite a few non-performing players and now that they have exited the tournament, stern decisions need to be made and these 3 players should be dropped from the side.

1) Mushfiqur Rahim

The most experienced batter of this Bangladesh team had a mediocre Champions Trophy 2025 as he finished with just 2 runs, at an average of 1.00.

Mushfiqur Rahim failed to deliver the goods against both India and New Zealand and this has been the trend for the last few series. Prior to the Champions Trophy, he averaged just 1 against Afghanistan and with age catching up, the Tigers should move beyond him and now is the time as they should bring in fresh energy in place of old guard.

2) Soumya Sarkar

Average in last three series

As the data says, in the last three ODI series, including Champions Trophy, Soumya Sarkar has been below average as an opener. He scored a duck in the only match he played in Champions Trophy and was average against West Indies and Afghanistan, averaging 31.33 and 30.67 in the respective series.

Overall, in 76 ODIs, he averages a mere 32.81 and hasn't contributed much in the wins for his team and the management should look to bring in a better opener from the next series.

Tanzid Hasan

There were high hopes with Tanzid Hasan when he came into the Bangladesh side, but it all went downhill as the batter failed to adjust to the international standards and his technique was exposed by the opposition bowlers.

In 23 ODIs, he has scored 462 runs, at an average of just 21, with 3 fifty-plus scores. These are not promising numbers for someone who has played 23 games, and the Tigers should look to get a better replacement.
