The 12th match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 is currently underway at Bengaluru, with Gujarat Giants Women (GGW) opting to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCBW). The decision has proven effective so far, as RCB have struggled to build momentum, losing key wickets at regular intervals.
RCB’ failed to give a solid start as they started losing wickets early. Captain Smriti Mandhana also failed to make an impact. She struggled for timing and eventually departed for 10 off 20 balls, caught by Harleen Deol off Tanuja Kanwar.
RCB's Woes Continue After Brilliant Turn Of Fortunes For GGW
Notably, the top-order collapse continued as Danielle Wyatt (4) and Ellyse Perry (0) fell cheaply, leaving RCB reeling at 25/3 within the powerplay. Kanika Ahuja and Raghvi Anand Bist then attempted to revive the innings with a steady 48-run partnership. However, just as RCB seemed to be stabilizing, a moment of misfortune struck.
In the 12th over, Raghvi Anand Bist chipped a simple catch to Ashleigh Gardner at extra cover, who shockingly dropped it. But quick thinking from Bharti Fulmali saw her pick up the ball and execute a direct hit at the non-striker’s end, catching Bist short of the crease.
The TV umpire confirmed the dismissal, breaking RCB’s much-needed stand. The collapse continued as Kanika Ahuja, who had been RCB’s best performer with 33 off 28 balls, was dismissed in the very next over.
GGW Builds On RCB's Early Collapse
With Richa Ghosh and Georgia Wareham now at the crease, RCB find themselves at 79/5 after 13 overs, desperately needing a strong finish to post a competitive total.
With Gujarat Giants’ bowlers dictating terms, RCB will require a late flourish if they hope to challenge their opponents in this crucial WPL encounter.
