Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill is in no mood to lose his purple patch, so it seems. The blistering opening batter attended the ICC Academy in Dubai for a rigorous training session on Thursday, February 27, even when it was designated a ‘rest day’ for the Indian team as they wait for their next 2025 ICC Champions Trophy game.

It is worth noting that Shubman Gill recently delivered a ‘Player of the Series’ winning performance in India’s emphatic 3-0 win over England at home. Moreover, the 25-year-old also pounded scores of 101* and 46, both in winning causes for the Indian team to start off their 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign in the UAE.

On what was supposed to be a rest day for the entire Indian team, young opening batter and vice-captain Shubman Gill went to the ICC Academy in Dubai for an “informal training session”. The 25-year-old was also accompanied by throwdown specialists and several other members of the support staff.

One can assume that Gill made up for the training session he missed under lights on Wednesday, February 26. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared snippets of the training session, where players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, national captain Rohit Sharma among others were all spotted in attendance.

Gill’s fondness of making up for the lost session clearly demonstrates his unwavering commitment to excellence and his relentless pursuit of peak performance, even amid a grueling tournament schedule.

With wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan, the Indian cricket team is currently occupying the number two position on the Group A points table of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. They will now face New Zealand on Sunday, March 2 at the Dubai International Stadium before featuring in the semifinals.
