In the latest development, Delhi Capitals, the IPL franchise has appointed former England star, Kevin Pietersen as their mentor for the upcoming season. Pietersen, a former DC player is currently working as a cricket expert and commentator, and after Matthew Mott, the franchise roped in the Englishman to join their coaching staff.
The maverick batter will join the coaching staff which already comprises of head coach - Hemang Badani, bowling coach, Munaf Patel, assistant Coach - Matthew Mott, and Director of Cricket, Venugopal Rao. Pietersen is most likely to work with the younger bunch and will help them to develop their skills.
Pietersen represented Delhi Capitals previously and was also associated with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The decision to bring back the England legend was announced by the franchise on their official app.
Pietersen's IPL journey
Pietersen was a big name when he was purchased by the Royal Challengers and was immediately appointed as the captain of the team as he replaced Rahul Dravid. He captained only in 6 matches before Anil Kumble took over the mantles from him.
He joined the Delhi Capitals side (then Delhi Daredevils ) in 2012 and scored 305 runs as he had one of his most successful IPL seasons.
Post his IPL and England journey, Pietersen became a cricket pundit and has been quite vocal about his views on cricket.
What will be KP's role?
As a mentor, Kevin Pietersen will tasked to deal more towards the mental aspect of the game as he, himself was one of the toughest players on the pitch.
Plus, the team boasts quite a few youngsters in the side and he'll have a major role to nurture them for the present and future IPL seasons.
