The IPL 2025 season is scheduled to begin on March 22 and Gujarat Giants will be vying for their second title. However, three players, in particular, will be under pressure to prove their mettle.
IPL is a land of opportunities for cricketers across the globe. Since its inception in 2008, the franchise league has produced several match-winners and superstars for the Indian cricket team.
However, the league has become much more competitive in recent years, making it difficult for players to survive with mediocre performance.
This year, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, will aim for their second title victory. The squad has been restructured to strike the right balance. Jos Buttler, Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Phillips and Washington Sundar have been some notable additions apart from the star-studded retention list.
Meanwhile, before the season gets underway, three GT players will be under a lot of pressure as they will have to prove a point.

Prasidh Krishna, who rose to fame with his impressive pace and controlled line and length, saw his career getting derailed due to injuries. Since 2022, Krishna hasn’t played a single IPL game as injuries overpowered his fitness.
This year, GT has put faith in Krishna's unexplored talent and potential. He is coming off a successful domestic season and has worked hard to maintain his fitness. During India A’s tour to Australia last year, Krishna thrived in bowling-friendly conditions.
Having said that, this IPL season, Prasidh Krishna will have to prove his fitness and stay injury-free.
2. Rahul Tewatia

Criterion | IPL 2024 | Overall T20 stats |
---|---|---|
Matches | 12 | 154 |
Runs | 188 | 2008 |
Average | 26.85 | 27.50 |
Strike Rate | 145.73 | 143.32 |
Rahul Tewatia, despite being an IPL veteran, has yet to make a debut in international cricket. In 93 IPL games, he has amassed 1013 runs with a 134.70 strike rate. Tewatia is a specialist finisher who can destroy any opposition lineup in death overs.
His destruction in the IPL is second to none. However, this IPL 2025 season, Tewatia has to up his game and challenge the place of Rinku Singh in India’s T20I squad. Rinku, since hitting 5 sixes in IPL, hasn’t been able to translate the same form in national colours.
His stagnant form is an opportunity for Tewatia to prove that he is a better finisher and more consistent than Rinku. Hence, IPL 2025 will likely be a make-or-break season for Tewatia as his odds of national selection will begin to diminish from next year.
1. Mohammad Siraj

Mohammad Siraj, India’s premier Test bowler, is struggling to prove his worth in white-ball cricket. In Champions Trophy 2025, Siraj was dropped as the team prioritised Harshit Rana as the second-choice fast bowler after Mohammed Shami.
Moreover, after spending the majority of his career with RCB, Siraj’s transition to GT could be challenging. However, he will be under the right guidance of head coach Ashish Nehra. Siraj has to bowl economical and impactful spells to prove his worth and effectiveness with the new ball.
That is something that bothered Rohit Sharma during Champions Trophy selection. While Siraj is a mainstay in Test cricket, this IPL season will determine his future in white-ball cricket.
