Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have retained almost all their core players ahead of the mega auction, and interestingly, they also released their captain, KL Rahul. However, the franchise made a baffling decision by releasing powerhouse, Marcus Stoinis and it raised quite a few eyebrows.
He can bat, he can bowl and he is also a gun fielder which makes a brilliant 3-D player. Stoinis' ability to smack the bowlers at will makes him a brilliant buy in the auction. His onslaught was witnessed in the 3rd T20I vs Pakistan, and hence, with the mega auction coming up, we look at 3 teams which could target the Aussie star.
3) Gujarat Titans
Ever since Hardik Pandya left for Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans have failed to replace him in that particular position. Hardik was a terrific all-rounder who contributed with both the bat and ball.
Hence, buying Stoinis will solve that issue for the 2022 IPL champions. Last season, they tried Azmatullah Omarzai at that position as a finisher, but it failed. Hence, the Titans will try and look for an explosive all-rounder in the middle and who better than Stoinis, who can also contribute with the ball as well.
2) Delhi Capitals
Earlier we did an article on why Stoinis is the perfect all-rounder fit for the Delhi Capitals. The piece sums up the importance of Stoinis for the Delhi franchise. With Rishabh Pant and Fraser-McGurk gone, the Capitals lack firepower in their batting order.
Barring Tristan Stubbs, they don't have a quality batter and hence, going after Stonis is the right move. He will certainly be expensive, but the Capitals do have the money to invest. Moreover, sometimes, the Delhi surface behaves a bit slow and in such situations, his bowling becomes crucial.
Plus, we have seen last season that the pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium assisted the batters. If that is the case, then Stoinis will be at his absolute best.
1) Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Having previously played for the Red Army, Stoinis knows the franchise inside out. With Glenn Maxwell gone, RCB need a reliable and yet an explosive finisher and Stonis can be the answer for the franchise.
Chinnaswamy is known to having a flat surface and it will bring out the best in Stoinis, the batter. RCB have enough money in the bank to spend on Stoinis and they shouldn't miss out on a player who will give them valuable overs and power-hitting in the middle overs.
