What was supposed to be a thrilling end to the ODI series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand turned into a washout, thanks to the rain gods. The third ODI at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium was abandoned as heavy showers just wouldn’t stop. New Zealand won the toss and looked ready for a big game, but the weather had other ideas.

New Zealand skipper, Mitchell Santner didn’t think twice after winning the toss as he put his team in to bat. And it looked like a good decision as New Zealand got off to a solid start. 

Will Young came out swinging, giving the Blackcaps a quick boost at the top. His partner Tim Robinson, though, couldn’t stick around for long. He managed just 9 runs before Charith Asalanka pulled off a stunner at mid-off off Mohamed Shiraz’s bowling to send him back.

Will Young then found an able ally in Henry Nicholls. The pair stitched a partnership of 88 runs for the second wicket and led New Zealand to 112/1 in just 21 overs. However, just when the Kiwis were cruising, the rain decided to make an entrance.
