To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction will be conducted on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 576 players will go under the hammer, with ten franchises engaging in multiple bidding wars to secure their services.

Regarding Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions haven't lived up to the expectations in the last few seasons. Despite replacing Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain, MI had a forgettable IPL 2024, finishing the season as the bottom-placed side. So, as they aim to revamp their core, let's analyse and find out who their targeted overseas players could be in the mega auction.

Quinton de Kock (Base Price - 2 Cr)

Why will MI target Quinton de Kock?

  • After releasing Ishan Kishan, Mumbai Indians are searching for a wicket-keeper to fill his void at the top order. They have an Indian-heavy batting core, having retained Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya. Therefore, they can afford an overseas top-order batter at the top order.
  • With most teams likely to raise their paddles for high-budget wicketkeeping options like Jos Buttler, Phil Salt and Rishabh Pant, MI might keep an eye on Quinton de Kock, whom they can buy at a much lower price than Ishan Kishan.
  • De Kock has ample experience in T20 cricket and knows how to bat at Wankhede Stadium, having represented MI in the past.

Trent Boult (Base Price- 2 Cr)

Why will MI target Trent Boult?

  • There was a time when Trent Boult used to lead Mumbai Indians' bowling attack in the IPL. He formed a lethal opening bowling pair with Jasprit Bumrah, as the duo used to run through the opponents' top orders.
  • However, after releasing Boult, MI struggled to form a similar opening bowling combination in the league. They invested in Jofra Archer, but the English pacer's back injury forced them to compromise the quality of their fast bowling unit in the last few seasons.
  • So, this mega auction gives MI a golden opportunity to bring Trent Boult back into their setup. Besides swinging the ball both ways upfront, the New Zealand speedster can be a valuable asset for the five-time champions in the slog overs. More importantly, as they have 45 Crores in their purse, MI can't get someone like Mitchell Starc, so getting Boult back will be a sensible call.

David Miller (Base Price- 1.5 Cr)

Why will MI target David Miller?

  • David Miller is one of the finest finishers in modern-day white-ball cricket, having played a pivotal role for South Africa in international cricket. The swashbuckling southpaw is a renowned player in the IPL and is expected to bag a lucrative deal in the mega auction.
  • Mumbai Indians, who have Hardik Pandya at number five, need a composed player to spearhead their finishing department. Considering Miller is at the peak of his prowess and has a calm head, we reckon he can be a perfect choice to fill Kieron Pollard's void.
