To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction is all set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 574 players will go under the hammer, with ten franchises engaging in multiple bidding wars to secure their services.

Regarding Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions haven't won the IPL trophy since 2021. So, as they aim to revamp their core, let's analyse and find out who their targeted batters could be in the mega auction.

Quinton de Kock (Base Price- 2 Cr)

Why will MI target Quinton de Kock?

  • After releasing Ishan Kishan to the auction pool, Mumbai Indians are searching for a keeper-batter and an opener. Quinton de Kock will be a perfect fit in their top-order, considering he fulfils both the criteria.
  • With most of the teams targeting marquee players, MI must keep their eyes on De Kock, whom they can get at a much lower price than someone like Ishan Kishan.
  • The South African batter has a plethora of experience in the IPL and has represented the five-time champions in the past. So, he knows how to capitalise on Wankhede Stadium's batting-friendly conditions and can provide MI with rollicking starts.

Sherfane Rutherford (Base Price- 1.5 Cr)

Why will MI target Sherfane Rutherford?

  • After Kieron Pollard bid adieu to the IPL, MI struggled to find a reliable finisher to spearhead their lower middle order. With Hardik Pandya coming at number five, MI need a power-hitter to bolster their finishing department at number six.
  • Although they have brilliant options in David Miller and Glenn Phillips, the five-time champions might also have a look at Sherfane Rutherford, who is in sublime form of late.
  • The explosive southpaw is West Indies' third highest run-getter across formats, amassing 548 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 126.55. So, considering MI have a budget of 45 Crores, much lower than their counterparts, they might go after Rutherford, whom they can get at a cheaper price.

Nehal Wadhera (Base Price- 30 Lakhs)

Why will MI target Nehal Wadhera?

  • Nehal Wadhera is a bright prospect from Punjab and started his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians. In 16 outings, he impressed everyone with his power-hitting, amassing 350 runs at a healthy strike rate of 140.
  • Considering MI retained all capped players, they are likely to buy Nehal Wadhera back by using the RTM card. It is mandatory for all teams to keep at least one uncapped player among their six first-choice cricketers, and Wadhera seems the most likely candidate for a homecoming.
