The IPL 2025 mega auction has wrapped up and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions, have made several noteworthy moves to enhance their squad. The franchise, known for its aggressive approach in the auction has once again made bold choices.

Despite a few surprises in their overall auction strategy, KKR has managed to build a well-rounded and formidable squad for the upcoming season. With the addition of players like Venkatesh Iyer and Anrich Nortje, alongside solid buys like Quinton de Kock, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Rovman Powell, KKR has set itself up for a strong team. The team has also invested in uncapped players like Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Vaibhav Arora.

As we have come to the end of the mega event, let's take a look at the at the top three steal buys for KKR.

Quinton de Kock (INR 3.60 Cr)

The IPL 2025 mega auction saw some smart buys from the KKR, and one of the most bold move was going for Quinton de Kock for just INR 3.6 crore. The South African wicketkeeper-batter was initially listed with a base price of INR 2 crore.

One of the main reason that KKR opted for Quinton de Kock was that the franchise was actively looking for a solid opening batter to complement their aggressive style of play. In Quinton de Kock, they found not only an experienced opener but one who is capable of setting a solid foundation in the powerplay.

Spencer Johnson ( INR 2.80 crore)

Spencer Johnson, the Australian left-arm fast bowler, is set to join KKR for IPL 2025. He was  bought for ₹2.8 crore during the accelerated round on day 2 of the mega auction. First reason that KKR invested in Spencer Johnson would be to bolster their pace bowling. His ability to swing the ball, combined with his left-arm angle, will provide KKR with variety in their attack.

While KKR has some established spin-bowling options like Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, they have added Johnson to their squad in order to to build a strong pace attack. Another significant reason that he has been included in the squad is that he will add depth and flexibility, offering a fresh pace option alongside Harshit Rana.

Ajinkya Rahane (INR 1.50 Cr)

KKR purchased Ajinkya Rahane in the accelerated auction for INR 1.5 crore in IPL 2025. The first reason likely that the team has opted for Rahane is to bring a wealth of experience and technical proficiency in the squad.

With players like Venkatesh Iyer, Rovman Powell, Quinton de Kock, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz forming the core of KKR’s batting, Rahane will provide the team with much-needed experience. And one another vital reason that KKR has opted for the experienced player is that they might considered him for the captaincy of the team in IPL 2025.
