The BCCI has released the retention rules ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The news has created a buzz among cricket fans across the nation, as it will lead to great twists and turns and some unexpected changes in the team dynamics.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, one of the league's most popular yet underperforming teams, will try their best to put in a proper plan and build a strong squad for the upcoming IPL season. Over the years, RCB has been one of the teams who have backed their star power. They have mostly tried to retain players who add to their brand value. However, because of the limitations on the number of players that could be retained and the mandatory rule to retain a capped player, they might have to release some of their big names.

Here are three players that RCB will have to release ahead of IPL 2025 -

3. Yash Dayal

The Indian left-arm seamer did a great job with the ball in the tournament's last edition for RCB. One of the significant contributions from Yash Dayal came in the last league stage game, where he bowled a crucial last over. His performances grabbed the attention of the selectors, and soon, he earned an India call-up. Yash Dayal could have become an important part of the RCB bowling attack in the future, and being a left-arm Indian pacer, his value will also be high in the auction. However, due to the retention policies, RCB might have to release him ahead of IPL 2025.

2. Faf du Plessis

The South African legend has become integral to the RCB setup in the last three seasons. Faf du Plessis was given the captaincy of the team after Virat Kohli stepped down, and he has done a decent job leading the team. However, RCB will have an eye on building a core for the future. Thus, Faf du Plessis might not be one of their five capped retentions ahead of the mega auction. And they might have to release him as the numbers are limited to only five.

1. Glenn Maxwell

The Australian all-rounder played a couple of good seasons for RCB. However, IPL 2024 was a miserable season for the 'Big Show'. With Will Jacks rising through the ranks, the RCB think tank might prefer the English all-rounder ahead of Glenn Maxwell. If there had been more than six retentions, they might have retained him, but under the current rules, RCB might have had to release the Australian star.
