As the IPL 2025 mega auction gets closer, Mumbai Indians (MI) have a lot to sort out. With new retention rules and changes in team setups, the five-time champions are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2024 season. MI finished last in the points table, and now they’ll need to rebuild their squad. While they have some talented players, these new rules might force them to let go of a few key members. But in the auction, they might try to buy some of them back. Let’s take a look at three players MI could target for a comeback.

Akash Madhwal

Akash Madhwal has been a key player for Mumbai Indians over the last two seasons. In the 2023 auction, MI picked him up for ₹20 lakhs, and he quickly made an impact. During the 2024 season, Madhwal took 14 wickets in just 8 innings, with a decent economy rate of 8.59.

At 30 years old, Madhwal has been improving in the T20 format and has shown he can be a dependable bowler. MI will likely try to bring him back to strengthen their bowling lineup in the upcoming auction.

Gerald Coetzee

Gerald Coetzee, a talented fast bowler from South Africa, was a great addition to MI in 2024. Bought for ₹5 crores, Coetzee impressed everyone by taking 13 wickets in 10 innings. Known for his speed and ability to take important wickets, he was a big help to MI’s pace attack, which mainly relied on Jasprit Bumrah.

Coetzee has also performed well in the SA20 league and for South Africa’s national team, which makes him a valuable player. MI doesn’t have many fast bowlers apart from Bumrah, so they might aim to get Coetzee back in the 2025 auction.

Nehal Wadhera

Nehal Wadhera, a young batter from Punjab, made his IPL debut for MI in 2023. Even though he didn’t get a lot of opportunities, he still managed to score 350 runs in 20 matches and played some crucial knocks.

MI struggled with their batting in 2024, so they may want to buy Wadhera back to strengthen their middle order. His ability to stay calm under pressure and score important runs could make him a key player for the team.
