'We Might Not Use It For MS Dhoni'- CSK CEO On Uncapped Player Retention Rule For IPL 2025

In a significant development, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has dropped a massive update on MS Dhoni's future with the five-time IPL winners. For the past two seasons, there were speculations that Dhoni might bid adieu to the game. Similarly, the fans are awaiting Dhoni's statement on his participation in IPL 2025. 

Recently, the CSK fans received delightful news after BCCI announced the revised retention policies for the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The board increased the retention limit from four to six. Further, they also introduced the rule that any player who has not played an international game in the last five years will be considered as an uncapped player. 

Thus, MS Dhoni will be available as an uncapped player, and CSK can retain him for just four crores; eight crores less than his current 12 crores salary. 

CSK CEO Provides Update On MS Dhoni

In the latest events, CSK CEO remarked that they are yet to communicate with Dhoni as the 43-year-old was in USA.  Speaking with Times of India, he said: 

"We are not sure at this stage, we might not even use it for MS Dhoni (talking about uncapped) - it's still too early to comment on this because we haven't had a discussion with him". 

CSK CEO also added that they would initiate the discussion with Dhoni over his future in the coming weeks. 

"Dhoni was in the US and we haven't had discussions yet. Now I am travelling this week so there is a hopeful of him playing but it's a call Dhoni will himself take, possibility of some discussions in the coming week. So there could be some clarity then."

It is worth noting that as per reports, the last date for submission of retention list is October 31.
