The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have a brilliant squad and the team delivered last season when they won the coveted title with a one-sided win in the finals.

However, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, this brilliantly assembled KKR team will be dismantled. As per reports, only 5 retentions are allowed per side, and that leaves KKR in a precarious situation. KKR's best buy last season, Phil Salt was the replacement player for Jason Roy, and the Kolkata based franchise struck gold with his purchase. He accumulated 435 runs, at a strike-rate of 182, and was one of the pivotal reasons as to why KKR won the IPL title.

However, there is a good chance that he could be released ahead of the auction. Many teams need a fiery opener, and Salt has a great reputation. He is aggressive, he sets the tone early in the innings and teams like such a dynamic player. Don't be surprised if he fetches more than INR 10 crore in the upcoming IPL auction.

The man who fetched INR 24.75 crore in IPL 2024 auctions, Mitch Starc was KKR's trump card for the Knight Riders. He started the tournament slowly, but gradually picked up the pace towards the fag end of the tournament.

In 14 matches, he picked up 17 wickets, and was the game-changer for KKR in the knockout stage, especially in the finals against SRH. However, KKR might have finalised their list of retained players, and due to the high price of Starc, there is a chance that KKR could release him.
