In the latest development, the Sanju Samson trade rumour continues to intensify, but this time, CSK is not the front-runner to sign him ahead of the next IPL season. Despite Rahul Dravid’s exit from the RR camp as the head coach, Samson’s future with the franchise still looks unclear as the team wants to keep hold of him.

However, the latest reports suggest that, apart from CSK and KKR, a third franchise is interested in acquiring his services, and that team is the Delhi Capitals. The Delhi team is reportedly keen on bringing in Samson for a second stint with the franchise, but the move likely depends on KL Rahul’s future.

According to Vaibhav Bhola, a News24 Journalist, if Samson leaves RR, DC would be interested in pursuing him, and he fits the bill perfectly.

Why Samson fits perfectly in Delhi Capitals?

DC needs an opener: With Jake Fraser-McGurk and Faf du Plessis having an underwhelming season with DC in 2025, the franchise needs a solid opener, and Samson could be the right option. For RR, he generally opens and has a good track record at that slot.

Previous experience with DC: Before becoming a household name with the Rajasthan Royals, Samson was associated with DC and played 28 matches for them. He knows the setup inside out, and would be a good fit with the side.

Captaincy option for DC: Axar Patel had an underwhelming season as captain, and under him, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. Hence, the team needs a new leader, and Samson has shown his leadership skills for RR, and could be a great captaincy choice.

End of the road for KL Rahul?

DC could be targeting Samson if they feel KL Rahul might leave the franchise before next season. The keeper-batter has been a subject of interest for KKR, and the three-time IPL champions are reportedly offering him KKR captaincy. Hence, he might leave DC before next season.

If he is gone, DC would need a keeper replacement, and Samson fits in multiple roles for DC, and would be a great buy in case KL Rahul decides to part ways with the team.
