Rashid to SRH in a trade deal? [Source:@iplt20.com]
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season is still far away, but all ten teams have already started to think about their lineup for the next edition. The IPL trade window allows them to strengthen the squad by either offering a cash deal to the player from another team, or by offering a player in return. However, this window is only open for a short period of time.
All the franchises have some or the other player whom they want to get rid of, and for the Gujarat Titans, that cricketer could be the out-of-form spinner, Rashid Khan.
Why GT might let go off Rashid Khan ahead of next season?
The numbers tell the entire story: In the last two seasons, Rashid has only managed 19 wickets in 27 matches, and with each passing season, his economy rate has skyrocketed. In the 2023 IPL edition, he gave away runs at an economy of 8.24, the following season, he was a touch more expensive at 8.40, and in the 2025 season, he conceded runs at 9.
GT are basically paying 18 crores for Rashid Khan, and the franchise is hardly getting their money back as the performances has been below par. So, if GT are willing to trade him, there is one team which could be interested in buying Rashid's services - Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Why Sunrisers could be interested in Rashid?
Proven match-winner for them: Before representing GT, Rashid spent his entire IPL career playing for the Sunrisers, and was a match-winner for the team. He has scalped 93 wickets for them in five seasons, and knows the SRH setup.
Lack of quality spinners: The SRH team's biggest weakness is the lack of a quality spinner. They have Zeeshan Ansari, Rahul Chahar in the squad, but none of them made an impact as the team failed to qualify for playoffs. However, the arrival of Rashid would automatically bolster the spin department.
Hence, if both parties are interested in a trade deal, here are 3 players SRH could potentially offer just to get Rashid back.
Players SRH would be willing to trade for Rashid
1) Mohammed Shami
Not a like-for-like replacement, but Mohammed Shami to GT makes sense. Just like Rashid had his best IPL days playing for SRH, Shami was at his unplayable best, representing the Titans.
Criterion | Data |
Matches | 33 |
Dismissals | 48 |
Average | 21.04 |
Economy | 8.02 |
(Shami stats for GT)
- An average of 21, with an economy of just 8 defined Shami's brilliant stint with the Gujarat Titans. By freeing up 18 crores after Rashid's departure, GT could utilise the money by going after Shami to strengthen the attack, and also by chasing a quality spinner for a low price.
2) Ishan Kishan
SRH could be interested in giving away the pocket-dynamo, Ishan Kishan, in a trade deal to get Rashid. Ishan scored a century in SRH’s first match of the IPL 2025, and then he ghosted as the batter failed to deliver the goods.
However, he could be of use for the Titans, as they lacked a clear power-hitter after Jos Buttler. They tried several players in the middle order, but the results never came. For MI, Ishan used to bat at number 4, and here he could play the same role.
Criterion | Data |
Matches | 25 |
Runs | 632 |
Average | 28.73 |
Strike rate | 130.85 |
(Ishan Kishan stats at no 4)
- With Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler occupying the top three spot, GT needs an aggressor at 4, and Ishan could be the solution for them.
3) Abhinav Manohar
Just like Shami, he is another player who has represented the Titans and had his best IPL seasons under the astute guidance of the franchise. The batter was bought by SRH with a lot of hope, but he has failed to deliver. Apart from the number 4 spot, GT could also do with a finisher at number 7.
They have tried several options at that position, but none have worked wonders, and hence, Abhinav Manohar could be a smart move if Rashid gets traded to SRH.
