It won't be an understatement to say that Glenn Maxwell has had a rough couple of months and it all started in IPL 2024. The star player had a horrendous season for RCB and the trend continued throughout the year.

In the just concluded ODI series against Pakistan, Haris Rauf made him his bunny as Pakistan sealed the ODI series, 2-1, and Maxwell copped a lot of criticism for his performance. He was also released by RCB ahead of the mega auction, and the Aussie all-rounder has decided to put his name in the auction table.

However, here in this piece, we'll decode why Maxwell won't be sold during the upcoming mega auction.

3) Base price slightly on the higher side

Maxwell has set his base price at INR 2 crore, and this could potentially be the barrier for Maxwell's IPL dream. He is already 36 years old, and spending 2 crore on him will not be a smart move as the teams will look for a younger option at the same price.

Had the price would have been lower, team might have considered picking up Maxwell due to his IPL experience.

2) Average performance last season

Last season was a disasterclass for Maxwell in the IPL. In 10 matches, he scored just 52 runs, at an average of 5.78. He looked out of touch and the bowlers found a way to get him out in the matches.

He was one of their pillars of strength before the start of the season, but midway through the league, he was replaced by Will Jacks as Maxwell was not trusted by the RCB team. With him not getting any younger, teams will not go into panic buy by trying ti lure him into their franchise.

1) Overall IPL impact is not that great

Barring the monumental 2014 season, where he scored 552 runs in 16 matches and the brilliant 2021 season, where he accumulated 513 runs, Maxwell has had an underwhelming stint in the IPL.

So much so that before joining RCB, Maxwell had an average season in 2020, when he 108 runs in 13 matches and had 0 sixes to his name that season. He has been inconsistent in the IPL, and at 36, teams will not bet on someone like Maxwell.
