To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to commence on Sunday, June 1, with Canada taking on the United States in the tournament opener.

While the eyes will be on arch-rivals Australia and England, India will be one of the hot title contenders, thanks to their formidable squad.

Led by Rohit Sharma, India have a balanced outfit, comprising some outright match-winners throughout the lineup.

However, the Men in Blue have the problem of plenty, which will prevent several deserving players from featuring in the playing XI. Therefore, as India prepare for the marquee event, let's see which players might miss out on selection for their opening game against Ireland.

Shivam Dube

The explosive left-handed batter had an impressive IPL 2024 campaign, amassing 396 runs at a blistering strike rate of 162.30

Although Dube's spin-hitting prowess can't be questioned, India already have a designated spin-basher in Suryakumar Yadav.

Furthermore, the Men in Blue will likely include Rishabh Pant as their keeper, with Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja following him. So, despite being in his prime, Dube might not play the inaugural match.

Sanju Samson

Just like Dube, Sanju Samson grabbed a million eyeballs through his scintillating performances in the IPL 2024, where he led Rajasthan Royals to the playoffs.

However, Samson's incredible outing as a batter might not be enough to bat for his inclusion in India's T20 World Cup XI.

With his competitor Rishabh Pant coming back and India having no vacancy in the top order, Samson's incredible IPL outing might not be sufficient to ensure his selection in the playing XI.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Ace Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal finally made it into the T20 World Cup squad owing to his clinical bowling performance in the initial leg of IPL 2024.

However, his bowling form sustained an exponential downfall soon after being picked for the marquee event. In his last nine IPL 2024 appearances, Chahal could scalp only seven wickets at a poor average of 54.71 and a horrendous economy of 10.63.

So, with his former spin-bowling partner Kuldeep Yadav performing, we don't see the veteran leggie playing the first game.
