There's a significant debate surrounding India's opening pair for the World Cup. However, according to former Indian opener, captain, and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, there's no question - it should be Virat Kohli.

With Rohit Sharma as captain on the other end, if this scenario unfolds, it would mean that Yashasvi Jaiswal would have to be left out.

"I would open with Virat Kohli in this T20 World Cup. I want Virat to bat the way he did for RCB, he has to bat with freedom & he is a great player" - Sourav Ganguly said.

Sourav Ganguly is relying on Virat Kohli's IPL performance and his experience on the big stage to support his statement.

Kohli's impressive display in IPL 2024 for RCB, where he scored 741 runs, played a crucial role in RCB's comeback in the tournament. Ganguly expects that Kohli will replicate this impact for the Indian team as well.

Jaiswal to sit out for RoKo to open?

If Virat Kohli opens the innings, it would likely result in Yashasvi Jaiswal being sidelined. The only alternative to accommodate Jaiswal while Kohli opens would be for Rohit Sharma to shift down the order.

However, with such a significant tournament at stake, it's uncertain if India would take that risk.

In this scenario, Suryakumar Yadav could potentially bat at his preferred position, number 3. As the world rank one batter in T20I, Suryakumar has been accustomed to batting at number 3 for his IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians.

India will be facing Ireland on June 5th which will be the first game of India in T20 World Cup. Head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma had to sort the issue ahead of the first game of tournament.
