Champions Trophy 2025 is less than two months away, and a lot is happening in the Indian camp. The atmosphere is not pleasant after the embarrassing defeat in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and the Men in Blue lack match practice for the prestigious fifty-over event that returns after eight years.
Notably, India played just three ODIs in 2024 and will play three more before the Champions Trophy 2025. While several spots are up for grabs in the Indian team, the opponents are sweating hard in the nets. Meanwhile, this article aims to shed light on three India-origin stars who can stun India in the Champions Trophy 2025.
1. Rachin Ravindra
Rachin, who loves playing against India and in India, has his roots in the sub-continent. The southpaw, who starred in the 2023 World Cup, was born in Wellington, New Zealand, but his father, Ravi Krishnamurthy was born in Bengaluru, was a software architect and settled in New Zealand in 1997.
He used to visit India in his summer breaks and has been doing well for himself in international cricket. It is worth noting that Ravindra didn't play a single ODI in 2024, but he is featuring against Sri Lanka in the ongoing series and holds the talent to upset India in the Champions Trophy when they lock horns on March 2.
2. Ish Sodhi
Another Kiwi, who is of Indian origin is Ish Sodhi. The right-arm spinner has been playing international cricketer for the Blackcaps for a long time and would look to outclass the Men in Blue.
Ish Sodhi is one of the few players to have been born in India. The spinner was born in Ludhiana, Punjab and moved to New Zealand at the age of four.
3. Keshav Maharaj
South Africa, who are placed in the group next to India, can feature Keshav Maharaj in their squad, who also is of Indian origin. It is worth noting that the left-hand all-rounder, was born in South Africa, but his forefathers hailed from Sultanpur, a town in Uttar Pradesh, India. They migrated to the country in Africa in 1874.
Maharaj continues to be a top asset for his country and maintains his Indian roots by visiting temples and celebrating with 'Namaste Gesture'.
