Rachin Ravindra And...? 3 Overseas CSK Players Who Might Not Get A Single Match In IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings have also often been called the Comeback Super Kings because they often make a comeback and win trophies after a miserable season. IPL 2024 was average for the Super Kings, as they failed to make it to the playoffs. CSK is eager to script one more dramatic comeback in IPL 2025, and their approach at the auction table was a clear indication of this.
The Super Kings have assembled a well-rounded squad specially tailored for their home track at Chepauk. They picked up some brilliant buys during the two-day mega auction and utilised their money cleverly to set up an all-purpose team. The overseas buys of CSK are also very well planned and strategically chalked out. However, due to IPL’s limitation of four overseas players in your playing 12, there will be a few overseas players who might sit on the bench for most of the season.
3. Jamie Overton

CSK recruited this English all-rounder for 1.5Cr. However, with Sam Curran in the mix and him being their most probable first-choice overseas all-rounder, Jamie Overton might have to warm the bench for most of the season. Overton looks more like a backup plan for CSK if Sam Curran suffers an injury or fails to contribute in the way the team wants him to.
2. Nathan Ellis

The Australian bowler was bought for a price of INR 2Cr by the Chennai Super Kings. Nathan Ellis is especially known for his abilities in the death overs of a T20 match. CSK have a designated bowler for that role whom they retained ahead of the IPL 2025 auction for INR 13 Cr, Matheesha Pathirana. Here also, the purchase of Nathan Ellis looks like a backup plan, a player who they can use if Pathirana gets injured or has to be rested if he fails to deliver as per expectations.
1. Rachin Ravindra
This might seem like the strangest claim, but hear me out. The money spent for Rachin Ravindra by CSK is INR 4 Cr. The Kiwi all-rounder is mostly expected to bat in the top order and come up with a couple of overs if required. However, CSK might prefer Deepak Hooda in the same role ahead of Ravindra. This strategy will be to include Noor Ahmad, the Afghan left-arm wrist spinner, who they bought for INR 10 Cr during the IPL 2025 mega auction, in the playing combination. Even if they try out Ravindra, it will be outside their home conditions, and thus, it is highly probable that Rachin Ravindra will have to sit out for most of the season.
