While India are struggling in Tests and ODIs, T20Is are not an area of concern for the Indian fans as the T20 World Cup winners are shining bright in the shortest format of the game.
Ever since winning the T20 World Cup 2024, the Men in Blue have played three series under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, who succeeded Rohit Sharma as the regular T20I skipper till the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Under SKY's leadership, India have played against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa. Out of the nine matches, captained by SKY, he has suffered a defeat in just one match that was in the 2nd T20I against the Proteas in the ongoing four-match T20i series.

While India are flying high, SKY's individual performance has taken a hit. It is worth noting that Surya is having a forgetful year as a batter and is on course to register his worst calendar year with the bat in T20Is. SKY has amassed just 429 runs this year in 17 matches and averages 26.81, which features four fifty-plus scores.
The fans are poking fun at the Indian skipper for his short stay at the crease and are missing the old consistent SKY. Many have questioned whether captaincy is taking a toll or not. Thus, this article will analyse whether the burden of captaincy has played a part in SKY's dip in form.
Talking about the Sri Lanka series, Surya scored 92 runs in three innings and averaged just 30.67, which featured a solitary fifty and a single-digit score in the third T20I.
Against Bangladesh, SKY had one good knock of 75 (35) in the third T20I. Other than that, his aggregated runs in the other two T20Is were just 37. He scored 112 runs in three innings. SKY's worst is coming against South Africa as he has amassed just 26 runs in three innings at an average of 8.67.
Overall, since becoming a regular captain, SKY has amassed 230 runs in nine matches and has just one T20I left to play this year. Overall, in the last nine innings as captain, SKY has just two fifty-plus scores and four single-digit scores, which is not a good sign for the Indian team.

Conclusion
It is concluded that SKY is having a poor year with the bat and captaincy has minimal role to play. Interestingly, he has scored more runs in 2024 as a captain than just as a pure batter. Although, his average was better as a pure batter. One thing that can be concluded though is that he is not batting at a fixed position and often bats at either No.3 or No.4 which has hampered his form.
