In the first T20I against the home team, South Africa, the visiting Indian side stuck to their aggressive template and came out all guns blazing. The onslaught was taken care by a rejuvenated Sanju Samson, who blasted his second successive T20I ton.
The Kerala batter hammered his maiden T20I century Vs Bangladesh, last month, and continued the momentum as he blasted a 47-balls century to guide India to victory. Apart from Samson, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played brilliant cameos as India scored 202/8.
SKY unfazed by India's batting collapse
The target was a bit too much to achieve as the Proteas lost wickets at regular intervals. They were never really in the hunt as India churned out wickets and won the first T20I by 61 runs. However, despite the win, there was a concern in India's batting. While Samson was battingt, the Men in Blue had all the momentum with them, but that momentum derailed towards the lasr 5 overs when India lost 6 wickets.
Once Samson departed, the others failed to carry the innings as India could have posted a lot more than 202. However, captain Suryakumar was unfazed with the batting collapse and promoted the selfless brand of cricket which the Indian side is playing.
"The brand of cricket we play, even though we lose a few wickets, we want to play without fear, it's a T20 game and if you can score 200 in 17 overs, why not?" Suryakumar Yadav said after the match in Durban.
SKY lauds Samson's knock
Suryakumar was also in awe of Samson's knock as the opening batter continues his domination in the game's shortest format. He broke several records which also included becoming the seventh fastest Indian to 7,000 T20 runs.
During the post-match presentation, SKY lauded Samson for his brillliance with the bat.
"He has worked hard over the years and is reaping the fruits of that. Even when he was in 90s, was looking to hit the big shots. Keeping the team in front so nice to have him in the team."
The second T20I between the two teams will be played on Sunday as India eye a series win against the Proteas side.
