On Wednesday, January 15, IPL franchises were hit with a big blow after there were reports that South African and Australian players might miss the IPL 2025 playoffs because of the WTC final.

Notably, South Africa and Australia both have qualified for the WTC 2025 finals, and both teams will lock horns against each other from June 11-15 at the Lord's in England. Thus, in order to prepare for the prestigious red-ball event, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa would instruct their players to return for national duty after the group stage round.

In case, the players do miss out, then the team combinations would be totally disturbed. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on all South African Test stars who can miss the IPL 2025 playoffs due to WTC final commitment.

Tristan Stubbs

Delhi Capitals have been handed a massive blow as Stubbs, who was their star batter last year, will miss IPL 205 play-offs as he is a regular starter in the Tests as well. Stubbs scored 378 runs in 14 innings and was retained by the Capitals for a whopping 10 crores.

Kagiso Rabada And Gerald Coetzee

Gujarat Titans have been handed a double blow as Kagiso Rabada and Gerald Coetzee are both likely to be picked for WTC final squad. While Rabada's selection is certain, Coetzee too can find a place as he has been a regular in the Test side and missed the Pakistan series because of an injury.

For IPL 2025, GT spent 13.15 crores to avail their services. Notably, GT spent a whopping 10.75 crores on Rabada, while Coetzee will also earn 2.40 crores for the upcoming season.

Marco Jansen

Punjab Kings too have been handed a massive shock as they spent 7 crores to have Jansen play for them for IPL 2025. He was earlier a part of SRH and have done well for the Men in Orange. However, Jansen continues to be a part of South Africa's red-ball set-up and will definitely leave the IPL midway incase the reports are true.

Aiden Markram

Markram, who usually acts as a stand-in Test skipper in Temba Bavuma's absence, is also set to miss IPL 2025 season midway. Notably, LSG bought Markram at a base-price of 2 crores.

Ryan Rickelton

Rickelton, who is the latest Test sensation for South Africa, was bought by Mumbai Indians for 1 crore and was touted to be Rohit Sharma's opening partner for the upcoming season. However, Rickelton is doing well in the Test side and recently smashed a double hundred against Pakistan to solidify his place in the team.
