Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the upcoming match of the IPL 2025 season. Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati will host this game on March 26 starting from 7.30 PM IST.

While KKR lost their season-opening game against RCB by seven wickets, RR lost by 44 runs against SRH in a high-scoring game. Hence, the upcoming game is crucial for both sides to get some points and move up the table.

For defending champions Kolkata, their playing XI combination is very crucial as captain Ajinkya Rahane has a major task at hand.

KKR's Batting Order Likely To Stay The Same

Kolkata Knight Riders had a great start in their last game against RCB with Ajinkya Rahane setting up a 103-run partnership with Sunil Narine. However, the middle order flattered as big guns like Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh and Andre Russell were dismissed cheaply.

Regardless, KKR does not have better alternatives on the bench. Hence, Narine and Quinton de Kock will be backed to open with Rahane thriving at no.3

Venkatesh Iyer will likely come at no.4 and Rinku has been promoted to no.5 this season. Owing to his potential, KKR won’t backtrack from their decision just yet and allow the finisher more time to adjust.

Andre Russell will be the next batter in who will be tasked to finish things. Angkrish Raghuvanshi will also feature in this lineup as an impact player as KKR are batting second. If batting first, Angkrish will find a place in the starting XI.

Also, KKR has another promising hitter in Ramandeep Singh. He’s got tons of potential stored and the team is backing him to unleash that in the next match against RR.

Will Rahane Go With An Extra Spinner?

The Achilles heel for KKR is their bowling lineup. RCB chased 175 runs against them in 16.2 overs with every bowler except Narine having an economy above 10.

For starters, Ajinkya Rahane can bring in Anrich Nortje in place of Spencer Jones, but only if Nortje is fit enough to return. He is still nursing with a back injury, which leaves KKR short on options. Spencer bowled only 2.2 overs last match and allowed 31 runs.

That being said, if KKR is indeed short on pacers, perhaps they must try having an extra spinner. They have Moeen Ali sitting on the bench who can replace Johnson in the next game. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora could be frontline pacers with Andre Russell and Venkatesh being extra pace options.

Having Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Moeen Ali bowling together on a wicket with some help for spin could be a game changer move from KKR.
