Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), three-time IPL champions, became the first team to have 18 million followers on social media platform, Facebook. The team shared a special post to celebrate the big achievement.
Defending champions KKR lost their IPL 2025 season opening game against RCB on March 22 at Eden Garden Kolkata. Batting first, the Knight Riders posted 174 runs on board.
However, RCB’s Phil Salt and Virat Kohli came out all guns blazing to slam two fifties and stitch up a 95-run partnership in 8.3 overs. Rajat Patidar carried the momentum forward to wrap up the chase in 16.2 overs and clinch a seven-wicket mega win.
KKR Celebrates Social Media Milestone
Meanwhile, a day after their defeat against RCB, KKR found a reason to celebrate as they mastered the social media game. The three-time IPL champions have become the first franchise in the tournament’s history to hit 18 million followers on Facebook.
KKR, which is owned jointly by Bollywood's biggest star Shahrukh Khan, has remained a popular fan-favourite franchise, both because of their performance on the field and their large social media presence.
Their innovative online campaigns, such as player challenges, match highlights, and throwbacks based on nostalgia, have gone a long way in keeping supporters active throughout the year.
That being said, KKR will next face RR on March 26 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Ajinkya Rahane Makes Statement As KKR’s Captain
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Ajinkya Rahane silenced all doubts surrounding his captaincy with a stunning 25-ball fifty against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening match of IPL 2025.
His breathtaking knock at Eden Gardens saw none other than Shahrukh Khan in the stands, clapping and cheering for his team’s new leader. He kickstarted his innings with a brutal assault on Rasikh Salam before taking apart Krunal Pandya and Yash Dayal, racing to his half-century in no time.
