Anrich Nortje, the star South African speedster has been ruled out of SA20 2025 and Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. The pacer last played for South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup and was recently named in the Champions Trophy squad with a hope that he will recover in time. However, the scans on Monday did not show positive results and it has ruled him out of the marquee event.

The right-arm pacer is known for his genuine pace, but his progress has been hampered by injuries in the last couple of years, and this is anothe huge setback for him. Anrich Nortje was due to play for Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2025, but did not take part in the initial matches which raised concerns over his fitness and the latest update has validated that fear.

Gerald Coeztee And Ottinel Baartam Front-Runners To Replace Nortje

South Africa are yet to announce the speedster's replacement and they are likely to go with Ottinel Baartman or Gerald Coetzee. Nortje missing the tournament is a big loss for the Proteas though, as he has the experience of bowling in subcontinent conditions and can ran through batting line-ups with his raw pace.

The right-arm pacer has played 22 ODIs for South Africa and has bagged 36 wickets so far with his last ODI game coming in 2023 World Cup. He was brilliant for the Proteas in the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the onus will be on Kagiso Rabada now to lead a young pace attack on what is expected to be flat decks in Pakistan.
