The Trent Rockets locked horns with the London Spirit in the 20th match of The Hundred 2024. The Rockets put in a brilliant all-round show and picked up two important points from the game at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Alex Hales powers Rockets towards a formidable total

The Trent Rockets batted first in the game after winning the toss. Despite losing Adam Lyth early, the Rockets were able to put on a formidable total on the board, courtesy of a brilliant knock played by Alex Hales. Coming into bat at number three, Alex Hales was the part of two crucial partnerships with Tom Banton and Joe Root that powered the Rocket to a formidable total of 166/4 in their 100 balls.

Pepper ends Hales's stay with fielding brilliance

Hales decorated his knock of 68 runs from 42 deliveries with three fours and five maximums. The match-winning innings from Hales came to an end in the 83rd ball of the innings. Nathan Ellis was bowling this set for the London Spirit. The Australian pacer bowled a slower delivery on the length to Joe Root. The English batter missed the ball and it brushed his pads to be deflected to Michael Pepper behind the stumps. Root and Hales set off for a quick leg bye, however, this did not turn out to be fruitful. Pepper hit the stumps at the striker's end on the direct hit with Hales short of the crease, thus ending the batter's stay in the middle.

Later in the game, the London Spirit failed to put up a fight. While chasing 167 runs, the Spirit managed to scored 144 before being bundled out in the last set. They lost the match by 22 runs, thus keeping them on the second last spot in the points table.
