On Thursday, October 31, all ten franchises released their retention list for IPL 2025. Some names were expected, while a few came as a shocker for the fans as well.
Talking about Lucknow Super Giants, as the rumours had hinted, KL Rahul has been released and will go under the hammer at the upcoming mega-auction in the last week of November 2024.
LSG Retain Mayank Despite Injury Concerns
Other than Rahul, LSG also hogged the headlines for retaining pace sensation Mayank Yadav for 11 crores as he is injury-prone. Notably, Yadav recently suffered a fresh injury and is likely to be out of action for more time now.
He had suffered the injury during IPL 2024, but earned an India call-up for the Bangladesh tour and picked up another injury.
Meanwhile, LSG co-owner Shashwat Goenka, speaking with Times of India, shed light on Mayank Yadav's retention for 11 crores despite his history of injuries.
LSG Break Silence On Mayank Yadav's Retention
“The way you look at it, when a player is playing a match, is he able to contribute to a win? I think Mayank fits that bill perfectly. He played in four games last season and picked up seven wickets. That itself shows the potential of the individual," LSG co-owner Shashwat Goenka told The Times of India.
“If you look at other players with similar backgrounds, when they first started off, they were injury-prone as well, and they had to work on their fitness, if I can put it that way. “So that (injury) wasn’t the deciding factor; it was about when he plays, what is the contribution he makes to the game and to LSG. That was the guiding principle behind keeping him."" Goenka added.
It is worth noting that in the three seasons at the IPL, LSG have qualified for the play-offs twice and failed to do so once that too in the last season.
