On Tuesday, April 22, Delhi Capitals locked horns against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana stadium in IPL 205 match 40. It was the revenge week in IPL, but LSG failed to avenge their defeat in the early days of IPL against DC as the Axar Patel-led side handed LSG a eight-wicket defeat.
Rishabh Pant hogged the internet as the LSG captain was heavily trolled by the fans for his lacklustre performance. Notably, Pant took several questionable decisions during the match and the fans held him responsible for LSG's defeat against the Capitals. This article will look at the 3 reasons why Rishabh Pant should be solely accused of failure vs DC.
1. Holding Himself To Not Bat vs DC
Pant has had below-par performance in the tournament so far. The LSG skipper has just 106 runs in eight innings. Further, in the recently concluded match, LSG got off to a great start but lost the control in the middle-overs. However, Pant kept demoting himself and held himself back in order to give other players a chance.
The decision was heavily criticised as LSG needed to rely on their skipper and the southpaw let his franchise down. It is worth noting that Rishabh walked to bat only for the last two deliveries and registered a duck.
2.Wrong Use Of Impact Sub
LSG's use of impact sub rule has often come under criticism and it happened again against DC. Usually, a team opts for an impact sub in the 2nd innings depending on the area they want to strengthen.
However, with LSG, they bring in Ayush Badoni as an impact sub in the first innings, leaving Mayank Yadav out. Instead, they can have Badoni in the playing XI and replace him with Mayank in the 2nd innings, which would enhance their bowling attack.
But for the past two games, the LSG speedster misses out from the action as LSG opt for the impact sub rule within the first innings itself.
3. Weird Bowling Selection
LSG, batting first, couldn't put big runs on the board and in such a scenario, Pant needed to revert to his best wicket taking bowlers. However, in an interesting move, Avesh Khan, who has been their best bowler so far as seen against Rajasthan Royals, was brought into the attack in the 6th over of the match, when DC had already got the momentum.
Not only Avesh, but how Pant used Shardul was also questionable as the right-arm seamer was taken off attack just after one over, despite him being regular among the wickets.
