In the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium, DC won the toss and opted to field first. The Rishabh Pant-led side, batting first, got off to a flying start as Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram stitched a 87-runs stand for the first wicket.

However, DC bounced back and trigged a collapse. Notably, LSG went from 87/0 to 110/4 in no time. Meanwhile, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant didn't walk to bat and it left the fans concerned. But why didn't Rishabh Pant came to bat?

Why Didn't Rishabh Pant Bat against Delhi Capitals?

It is not the first time that Pant opted to hold himself back from batting and did the same against Kolkata Knight Riders when he didn't come to bat. Notably, Pant explained that the openers got off to a great start and he wanted the left-right combo to get clicking which happened against KKR.

However, in the ongoing match, the strategy backfired as Nicholas Pooran, and rest of the middle-order batters failed to score the required runs. Thus, the decision to hold himself from batting was a tactical decision as LSG have too many lefties in the middle and since Pant has had an below-average season so far, he might have thought that sending other in-form batters above him would keep the scoring rate in check.

Eventually, Pant walked to bat for just last two balls and registered a duck again against DC.

Another reason that the fans have speculated is an injury concern as Pant was spotted with a taped right-hand. Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, LSG are 145/4 after 18.5 overs.
