Jacob Bethell is one of the most promising young stars in English cricket and it touted as the next big thing. He has just played handful of games at the international level, but English selectors are promoting him in all formats and the southpaw also got selected in the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.

He is a quality batter who can bat anywhere in the batting order and is known for his ability to hit effortless sixes. In 9 ODIs, he has scored two fifties and the latest of them came in the first ODI against India in Nagpur under pressure. However, he has now suffered a hamstring injury and it has put his participation in Champions Trophy 2025 in doubt.

3. Dan Mousley

The young Englishman is a talented batting all-rounder just like Jacob Bethell and impressed with a fifty in his first ODI series. He scored 57 in his last ODI and it touted as one for the future. Along with the bat, he can deliver with his off-breaks as well and has been quite successful in domestic cricket.

He is also a left-hander like Jacob Bethell and is flexible with his batting order too with ability to hit big shots. The fact that he played ODIs for England, just before the India series shows that he is on selection radar and has List A numbers to back it up. He has 407 runs in 12 matches at a strike-rate of 37 with one hundred and three fifties and has a strike-rate of over 90. He also has seven wickets in List A and overall is a quality like-for-like replacement of Jacob Bethell.

2. Will Jacks

The explosive top-order batter was part of England's ODI setup just before the India series. He has been brilliant in T20 cricket not only for England but in T20 leagues around the world and can destroy bowling attacks when he is in the zone.

His ODI career started off on a positive note, as he notched up some crucial fifties and the last one of those came against Australia in September 2024. However, string of low scores after that has put him out of favour and Bethell's injury can provide him with a new lifeline.

He has four fifties in 15 ODIs and a strike-rate of just over 100 while in the List A cricket, he has one century and six fifties. Jacks though is an experienced T20 cricketer and flat wickets in Pakistan can help his style of play. Also, like Bethell, Jacks provides a spin-bowling option and he can be a worthy replacement.

1. Tom Banton

The right-handed batter last played an ODI game in 2020, but consistent performances in recent times has brought him back into the England setup just before the Champions Trophy. He has been called-up as a replacement of Jacob Bethell for the third ODI in Ahmedabad. His selection means that the management is likely to back him as Bethell's replacement in Champions Trophy as well and that makes him a front-runner at the moment.

Banton is traditionally a opening batter, and in six ODIs, he has 134 runs with one fifty in it. In List A cricket, he has an average of 29.90 in 22 innings which includes two hundreds and four fifties. He is a power-hitter as well and was in great form in ILT20 2025, where he smashed 493 runs in 11 innings with an average of 54.77 and strike-rate of 151.69. He also hit two centuries and three fifties. So, England would be hoping that he delivers on his ODI comeback and make them proud if Bethell is ruled out.
