Shreyas Iyer's Run Out vs ENG (Source:@kuchbhi12341416/X.com)
Shreyas Iyer has been India's dependable number 4 batter in ODI cricket for a long time now. He scored over 500 runs in 2023 World Cup and was instrumental in India's campaign to the final of that marquee event. The Champions Trophy is now around the corner, and the batter is looking in great touch again. He scored a quickfire fifty in Nagpur, and looked all set for another fifty in Cuttack, before a big misunderstanding ended his stint.
The wicket of Shreyas Iyer came on the final ball of the 37th over. Adil Rashid bowled a full delivery on middle and Axar Patel worked it towards the leg side. He initially took couple of steps forward, but then stopped seeing the ball going towards the fielder. However, Shreyas Iyer was almost halfway down the track till then and by the time he realised that Axar is not running for it, it was too late.
The Indian number four tried to get back to the bowler's end but Jos Buttler was quick to collect the ball and threw it to the bowler's end. Adil Rashid picked the ball and whipped the bails off as Shreyas was way out of his crease. It was naturally quite a frustrating moment for the batter as he was playing quite well and he looked back at his batting partner with pain in his eyes as Axar too clearly looked disappointed.
The wicket gave England some hope, but India were still in strong position and it was because of Rohit Sharma's blistering century at the top of the order. In the first innings, England scored 304 with Duckett and Root leading the way with fifties. India are leading the series and with a win in Cuttack they will take an unassailable lead with one final game to go.
