In a shocking turn of events, IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals parted ways with head coach Ricky Ponting after seven seasons.

The news was broken by Team Director Sourav Ganguly in an interview, and after that, the Delhi Capitals made an official announcement on their social media handles.

Ponting, was associated with the Capitals for the last seven years, and it was under his guidance that DC reached their first-ever IPL finals (2020). However, poor results in the last couple of seasons has resulted in his sacking as the head coach.

With Ponting gone, we at OneCricket look at 3 potential candidates who can become the new head coach of Delhi Capitals.

3 Potential Candidates To Replace Ricky Ponting

Sourav Ganguly

Currently serving as the Team Director, Ganguly is the front-runner to replace Ponting at DC. The former India captain has been associated with the franchise for a number of years and is familiar with the DC setup.

A leader in his playing days, Ganguly would love to work with the younger crop of players in the franchise, similar to what he did when he led the Indian team in the early 2000's.

Jacques Kallis

A legend of the game, Jacques Kallis, the former South African cricketer can also be considered for the head coach post. Rumours are circulating that Kallis is also being touted to become the mentor of the KKR team as Gambhir has become the head coach of the Indian team.

Kallis has prior experience of coaching in SA20, and knows IPL structure, since he was a part of the KKR winning squad in 2012.

Mahela Jayawardene

An outside bet, but Mahela Jayawardene could be the best bet for the head coach position. Jayawardene coached Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles, and currently works as Global Head of Performance for MI.

While Jayawardene looks secured in his current position, but don't rule him out if DC do present an interesting project which tempts him to leave his current role.
