The Delhi Capitals have been one of the most underrated and underperforming teams in the history of the Indian Premier League. In the 16-year history of the tournament, the Capitals have made it to the top four six times, out of which only once did they play the summit clash. 

One of the main reasons behind the inconsistent performance of the franchise has been the unstable core. They have tickled with their playing styles and squad too frequently and that has never allowed the players to adjust with the team culture and style of play. 

In the last few seasons, they tried to form a core, which comprised of plenty of young players. However, even after showing promise in the first few seasons, the set up failed to execute the plans properly and once again their on-field shows began to lag behind. 

With the mega auction to take place ahead of the IPL 2025, the Capitals will be looking to set in motion a long-term plan and acquire players who could serve them at least for five to six years down the line. However, they will look to develop a strong core at first and here are three players whom they could retain from the present squad and make a part of that core.


1.Jake Fraser-McGurk

The young Australian batter turned a lot of eyes with his ultra aggressive batting style in IPL 2024. Jake Fraser-McGurk instilled the belief in the Capitals, that they can also adapt to the evolving landscape of T20 cricket. In the future, DC will be happy to have such a dynamic batter at the top of the order. He could be one of those batters for the Capitals, whom they use to put themselves ahead in the games at an early stage. 

2. Tristan Stubbs

The South African middle-order batter is another representaion of the current dynamic style of play in T20 cricket. While Fraser-McGurk can put them ahead with his aggressive batting at the top, Tristan Stubbs can carry the momentum and take the team ahead in the game. With two such dynamic players in your team, the Capitals can be ensured to get the advantage in most of the matches. 

3. Kuldeep Yadav

The Indian left-arm wrist spinner has played a crucial part in the DC bowling line-up for the last couple of seasons. Kuldeep Yadav's efficient spells in the middle overs have often been the main reason for a lot of  their wins. His effectiveness and experience could be crucial in this transition season for the Capitals.
