Virat Kohli has finally opened up about the catastrophic stampede that rocked RCB’s victory parade in Bengaluru on June 4, 2025. The former RCB skipper, who usually wears his heart on his sleeve, took to social media nearly three months after the horrific incident that scarred what should have been the happiest day in the franchise’s history.
Virat Kohli Reflects On Bengaluru Tragedy
“Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic. I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” Kohli said as posted by RCB on X.
For a man who usually lets his bat do the talking, this was Virat Kohli dropping his guard and speaking straight from the heart.
RCB’s grand victory parade on June 4 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was supposed to be a celebration of their first-ever title. Less than 24 hours after beating Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, the franchise planned a carnival for the fans. But instead of cheers, it turned into chaos.
With over 3–5 lakh fans pouring in without proper security arrangements, things spiralled out of control. The crowd crush led to a deadly stampede, claiming 11 lives and injuring more than 50. It was supposed to be RCB’s lap of honour but the day turned into one of the darkest chapters in Indian cricket fandom.
Legal Storm Still Brewing
Even as Kohli and RCB have come forward with words and actions, the storm isn’t over yet. Legal proceedings are still underway. The Karnataka government and the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) have already stated that RCB was prima facie responsible, pointing to the fact that the franchise didn’t seek police clearance for such a massive gathering.
The scars of that day will take time to heal. But with Kohli’s words and RCB’s new initiative (RCB Cares), the hope is that fans, families and the franchise can slowly move forward, one careful step at a time.
