'You Finding Kohli' - Ex-SA All-Rounder Hails Virat Kohli For Prioritising Tests Over T20 Cricket

South African legend Brian McMillian criticised Cricket South Africa's (CSA) recent decision to send an understrength Test squad to New Zealand with Indian great Virat Kohli's reference.

McMillian lauded Indian cricket and Kohli for prioritising Test cricket in the age of multiple T20 leagues, including the nation's own Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is the leading figure for the popular Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The former allrounder put Proteas' current players to the test through the Kohli lense and asked how much money would be enough for them to stick with the long-form game rather than going down the path of the shortest format.

Nearly all of Proteas' first-choice Test squad members will be skipping the two World Test Championship (WTC) matches to stay put at home for the second edition of the 'SA20' league, South Africa's premier domestic T20 competition and their main cash cow which turned a profit after just one year.

"I hope modern players are making enough money otherwise it's very difficult to do business," McMillan told PTI in an interview.

The former cricketer also raised his eyebrows on South Africa's wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen retiring from first-class cricket to free-up his calendar for limited-overs international assignments and T20 leagues.

"It is very hard on players. One of our guys (Heinrich Klaasen) retired now and will obviously play in T20 league and I have got my views on how countries should run its players in essence. People make a name on essence," he said.

"I think it's a world feel that you have to give priority to one's country and I think India has been doing it quite well. You finding Kohli and boys playing Test cricket is great."

"You don't find them putting out Test to play BBL. Test cricket will be threatened, but I suppose, it will remain the ultimate game," McMillan added.
