'Cannot Compare Kohli With...,' PAK Batter On Comparisons Between Virat Kohli & Babar Azam

A batter who rose amongst the ranks during Virat Kohli's lull period between 2019 and 2022 was Pakistan's Babar Azam, who scored across formats, leading to fans and former players indulging in comparisons between the two.

However, since the turn of 2023, Kohli has been on a run-making spree, while Azam has underperformed and is facing criticism from all quarters. 

The comparisons between both batters are unjustified, given the difference in the volume of matches Kohli and Azam have featured for respective countries. While Kohli is widely regarded as one of the best limited-overs cricketers, Azam is taking baby steps into being a great player.

Out of favour Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad, who himself was compared to Kohli early in his career, due to an uncanny resemblance stated what differentiates the former Indian captain and others. 

As quoted by Daily Pakistan Global, the 32-year-old called Kohli the 'best batsman in the world', again asserting that the Indian cricketer cannot be matched with others.

“Both are good players. You cannot compare Virat Kohli with anyone. He has scored against top-quality sides for a long period of time. There are players who do their work quietly and then there are a few who players that take on the World. Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the world. You can’t compare Virat with Babar Azam or me. Everyone is wrong if you compare it with Virat Kohli. Look at his record in all formats speaks for itself.”

Meanwhile, Kohli will seen playing for India against T20Is against Afghanistan in his comeback series in the format, while Azam after a poor Test tour of Australia, heads over to New Zealand for a long five-match 20-overs tourney.
