Suryakumar Yadav's ongoing rehab from an ankle injury and sports hernia seems to be bearing the cricketer's desired fruits as he resumed light training, facing throwdowns in the nets on Friday (January 12).

The extravagant Indian middle-order batter entered the next phase in his recovery and quest to forge a much-anticipated comeback to playing colours for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024 and India ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.

Expected to take another 8-9 weeks before being allowed to step on the cricket field again, the adventurous batter made an encouraging story post on his Instagram handle where he was seen facing the throwdowns and making his first hit off the bat since December.

Initially left in a brace when he picked up the injury, Suryakumar soon overcame it and was seen gymming at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

The cricketer seemed to have regained some strength in his ankle and leg muscles and is now okay to take on light throwdowns in the nets.

The two-part story post contained Suryakumar's inevitable movie reference, with a dialogue from one of the old Hindi movies taken as motivation to amuse his fans and followers.

"Kaam abhi khatam nahi hua hai Vardhan (the work is not done yet, Vardhan)", the cricketer funnily wrote.

Suryakumar sustained the injury in the early part of India's recently concluded trip to South Africa. Playing the third T20I as stand-in captain, the Mumbaikar hurt his ankle in the field during the South African batting effort.

At that point, he had told the SuperSports broadcasting team that his injury was not too serious. However, the cricketer was soon ruled out of playing action for at least the next two months after the BCCI physios and medical staff found out a damaged ankle and sports hernia.
